Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted global education systems, revealing and intensifying pre-existing inequalities. This article delves into the multifaceted concept of educational justice, focusing on distributive justice as a central dimension. It examines how the pandemic has affected access to education, pedagogical practices, assessment and grading, and teacher-student relationships, highlighting the need for a reconfiguration of distributive expectations and practices. The article argues that the crisis has spurred new normative debates and practical negotiations about how educational resources should be allocated more equitably. It introduces seven articles from a special issue that critically engage with these themes, offering insights into the evolving landscape of educational justice. The article also explores the potential of the post-pandemic era to reimagine education as a collective good premised on fairness, well-being, and solidarity, while acknowledging the challenges and contradictions in achieving this vision. It concludes with recommendations for future research and policy aimed at addressing persistent inequities and supporting justice-driven educational reform.
