In December 2016, the International Symposium “Bridging scales: homogenization and related topics in solid mechanics and crystal plasticity” was held in honor of Konstantin Anatolyevich Lurie’s 80th birthday. In this Special Issue of the Archive of Applied Mechanics, you will find selected contributions by the symposium participants as well as colleagues who were unable to attend. The topics are diverse, but all articles address challenging problems of continuous media, the area of research that benefited from Konstantin Lurie’s work and perspectives.
