Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical issue of airborne dust exposure at construction sites, with a particular focus on respirable crystalline silica (RCS). The study employs PIMEX-based methods, which combine real-time measurement and video data capturing to provide a detailed analysis of dust exposure during various construction activities. Key topics include the health risks associated with RCS, the importance of risk management, and the effectiveness of dust extraction systems. The chapter also explores the use of direct-reading instruments like the Respicon TM personal sampler for accurate exposure assessment. Results indicate that cutting walls with power machines can cause extreme dust concentrations, while the use of on-tool extraction significantly reduces exposure levels. The study concludes that PIMEX-based methods offer valuable insights into the effectiveness of dust extraction systems and provide reliable data for exposure assessments, ultimately contributing to the creation of healthier workplaces.
