Abstract

The article delves into the expressed needs of instructional designers (IDers) during the COVID-19 pandemic, using natural language processing to analyze 995 Facebook posts from the largest ID group. It identifies five main categories of needs: educational technology advice, job-related advice, announcements, general pedagogical advice, and COVID-related pedagogical advice. The study reveals the most frequent words and entities in each category, highlighting the prevalence of tools like Adobe Captivate and Zoom, and the importance of topics such as designing virtual training and e-learning engagement strategies. The findings provide valuable insights into the support mechanisms needed by IDers during crises, emphasizing the role of informal learning communities and the necessity for practical and accessible resources.
