Abstract

This chapter delves into the performance of Laser-MIG hybrid welding in 6xxx aluminium alloys, specifically focusing on the influence of Ar-He-Ne mixed shielding gas. The study begins with an introduction to the advantages of hybrid welding, such as deeper penetration depth and high welding velocity, which make it suitable for industries like automotive, pressure vessels, and shipbuilding. The literature review summarizes previous findings on hybrid welding, highlighting the benefits of using helium in the shielding gas to suppress weld porosity and enhance welding rate. The need for Laser-MIG hybrid welding is emphasized to overcome existing defects in laser welding, such as residual stresses and porosity. The study then explores the change in parameters of Laser-MIG hybrid welding, including laser power, welding speed, and joint gap, and their impact on welding performance. The experimental procedure involves fabricating specimens with different welding parameters and subjecting them to non-destructive and destructive testing. The chapter concludes by highlighting the potential of optimizing MIG welding with laser welding for enhanced production speed and quality, making it a valuable resource for professionals seeking to improve welding techniques in aluminium alloys.
