Abstract

The study focuses on the investigation of pulse reverse copper electrowinning, a method aimed at eliminating the need for solvent extraction in high iron content solutions. The presence of iron in the electrowinning electrolyte poses significant challenges, including reduced cathodic efficiency and increased energy consumption. The pulse reverse process, which involves periodically reversing the current direction, offers several advantages, such as enhanced mass transfer, reduced hydrogen evolution, and improved deposit quality. The research also explores the optimization of this process through experimental design and statistical analysis, identifying key variables that impact current efficiency and energy consumption. The results show that pulse reverse electrowinning can achieve high-quality cathodic copper deposition with acceptable current efficiency and low energy consumption, making it a promising alternative for small-scale mines and copper plants where solvent extraction may not be feasible. The article concludes by highlighting the potential of this method for practical applications in the metallurgical industry.
