Abstract

The article delves into the potential of saccharide-based carbons for charge storage applications, focusing on the preparation methods, structural characteristics, and electrochemical properties of these materials. It explores the impact of different carbohydrate precursors, such as monosaccharides and disaccharides, on the resulting carbon materials' performance. The study highlights the significance of subtle structural variations in the precursors, like stereochemical orientations and glycosidic linkages, on the electrochemical properties of the derived carbons. Through extensive characterization and electrochemical testing, the authors demonstrate that maltose-derived carbon exhibits superior specific capacitance due to its unique surface functionalities and porous structure. This research not only advances the understanding of bio-derived carbon materials but also paves the way for developing high-performance supercapacitors from renewable resources.
