Abstract

The article delves into the impact of chromium and nickel concentrations on the microstructure of austenitic stainless steels during rapid solidification. Using two-piston splat quenching, the study examines how these elements affect the formation of austenite and ferrite phases. It also discusses the implications of rapid solidification rates on microstructure evolution and the potential of splat quenching as a tool for simulating additive manufacturing processes like laser powder bed fusion.
