Abstract

The article presents a detailed CFD simulation study on the effects of silica nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery applications. It investigates the mechanisms of oil recovery, such as wettability alteration, mobility ratio, and interfacial tension reduction, using silica nanoparticles. The study highlights the importance of nanofluid properties like size, type, and concentration in enhancing oil recovery. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of silica nanofluid in improving oil displacement and recovery, especially in water wet reservoirs. The research also validates the simulation results with experimental data, showing a good agreement in oil recovery percentages. The article concludes that silica nanofluid has the potential to significantly enhance oil recovery, with the optimal concentration being 0.2% for cost-effective and environmentally friendly applications.
