Abstract

This study delves into the use of waste engine oil (WEO) as a rejuvenator for recycled asphalt mixtures, focusing on its impact on volumetric properties and cost-efficiency. The research highlights the benefits of incorporating WEO, such as improved blending between reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and virgin materials, leading to enhanced volumetric properties. The study also investigates the optimum dosages of WEO for mixtures with varying RAP contents, ensuring that the mixtures meet the required performance standards. A significant finding is that the inclusion of WEO can reduce production costs by 12 to 29%, depending on the RAP content and transportation distances. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of considering transportation distances of RAP in cost analysis, as it significantly influences the overall cost savings. The research concludes that using WEO as a rejuvenator not only enhances the performance of recycled mixtures but also offers substantial cost savings, making it a sustainable and economically viable option for pavement construction.
