Abstract

The chapter delves into the investigation of vorticity fields during two-phase flow in flow boiling, a critical aspect affecting the performance of steam generators, evaporators, and condensers. By employing an optical flow method, the study analyzes the liquid-vapor interface velocity to understand flow patterns and instabilities. The research identifies four distinct flow patterns—bubbly, plug, slug, and churn flow—and examines how parameters such as heat flux, slip ratio, vapor quality, and void fraction influence vorticity fields and enstrophy. The analysis reveals unique characteristics of vorticity in each flow pattern, highlighting the complex dynamics at play. This comprehensive study offers valuable insights into the behavior of two-phase flow systems, contributing to the broader understanding of thermal and fluid dynamics in industrial applications.
