Abstract

The article delves into the corrosion–wear interaction behavior of 8Cr4Mo4V-bearing steel, a high-alloy steel widely used in aerospace bearings. It examines the impact of various operating conditions, including corrosion temperature, NaCl concentration, rotational speed, and normal load, on the steel's tribological properties. The study utilizes a ball-on-disc tribometer to assess wear rates, coefficients of friction, and corrosion mass losses. The findings reveal complex interactions between corrosion and wear, with both synergistic and antagonistic effects observed. The article also quantifies the corrosion–wear interaction effect, providing valuable insights into the mechanisms influencing the steel's performance under harsh conditions. This research aims to enhance the reliability and service life of aero-engine bearings by understanding and mitigating the effects of corrosion–wear interactions.
