The promotion of hydrogen as a fuel and the production of synthetic fuels from hydrogen and CO 2 are effective means of reducing the emissions from the transport sector. However, the industrialization of the manufacturing process for these fuels is still facing considerable barriers. In the interview, Elmar Kühn, Managing Director of Uniti (the German association of small and medium-sized mineral oil companies), highlights ways of bringing alternative fuels to market and identifies potential cost- effective production processes.
Elmar Kühn studied law at the University of Münster and passed both state law examinations at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm (Germany). After his state examination, he worked full-time for the party Christian Democratic Union of Germany in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2004, he moved to Uniti Bundesverband mittelständischer Mineralölunternehmen e. V. (Federal Association of Medium-Sized Mineral Oil Companies) and became Chief Executive Officer in 2006. Kühn is a proven expert on the petroleum industry and the service station market.
