Japans Statusfrustration und der radikale Bruch mit der Ordnung der Zwischenkriegszeit

Zusammenfassung

Japans Außenpolitik machte zwischen den Weltkriegen einen tiefgreifenden Wandel durch: während Tokio in den zwanziger Jahren noch eine tragende Rolle bei der Sicherung des Status quo spielte, forderte es in den dreißiger Jahren die etablierte Ordnung aggressiv heraus. Dieser Bruch ist nicht damit zu erklären, dass Japans wirtschaftliche Entwicklung durch Engpässe behindert wurde, die eine Revision der bestehenden Ordnung erfordert hätten. Entscheidend war vielmehr die wachsende Wahrnehmung, dass Japan die internationale Statusposition verwehrt wurde, die es nach Ansicht seiner Eliten verdiente.
