Abstract

The chapter introduces a detailed methodology for analyzing the quality of socio-political Internet discussions, drawing on the theory of communicative ethics by Jürgen Habermas. It outlines seven discursive parameters, including participatory equality, civility, and argumentation, to evaluate the deliberative quality of online debates. The methodology was tested using Internet discussions on Russian pension reform, revealing insights into the activity, argumentation, and civility of participants across different cities. The study highlights the importance of these parameters in understanding public opinion and the potential for improving political decision-making processes. The research also identifies areas for future improvement in methodology and technology to enhance the analysis of online deliberations.
