Abstract

The article introduces a laboratory test for efficient and cost-effective design of CPR grouting to improve soft soils. CPR grouting, developed in Brazil, involves injecting high-viscosity grout to consolidate clayey soils. The study aims to establish a systematic design approach by simulating grout injection in a laboratory setting. The novel balloon test method uses a latex membrane to mimic grout bulb formation under hydrostatic conditions, unlike previous oedometric tests. The research focuses on identifying the optimal grout volume for maximum soil consolidation, highlighting that larger volumes do not necessarily yield better results. The methodology involves precise control of injection pressure and volume, with detailed calibration and correction for membrane resistance. The findings suggest that a substitution ratio of 2.1% provides the highest consolidation, indicating an optimal grout volume. The study concludes with recommendations for future research, including the use of natural soil samples and multiple grout injections to better simulate real-world conditions.
