Abstract

This chapter delves into the application of Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) for smooth channel flow, employing a stochastic wall model to capture near-wall turbulence. It compares LES results with Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the stochastic model. The study focuses on the inner and outer layers of the channel flow, examining mean velocities, variances, and stresses. The chapter also discusses the computational efficiency of LES compared to DNS and explores potential applications in complex flow scenarios, such as particle transport in the atmospheric boundary layer. The results show promise for the stochastic model in improving LES accuracy near the wall, although further refinement is needed for variances. This work contributes to the ongoing development of advanced turbulence modeling techniques in fluid dynamics.
