Abstract

The study focuses on the large-scale and high-resolution visualization of the mechanical properties of wood-adhesive interphase using nanoindentation mapping. It investigates the correlation between adhesive infiltration and mechanical properties, comparing phenol-formaldehyde (PF) and polyurethane (PUR) adhesives. The research reveals that PF adhesive infiltrates more effectively, leading to improved mechanical properties in the wood-PF interphase. The study also highlights the importance of understanding the mechanical properties of early wood-adhesive interphase, which is often overlooked. The use of nanoindentation mapping provides a time-efficient and reliable method for obtaining these insights, making it a valuable tool for optimizing wooden engineered composites.
