Abstract

The article 'Laws Could Always Be Revoked': Sociopolitical Uncertainty in the Transition to Marriage Equality examines the impact of sociopolitical uncertainties on the relational dynamics of sexual minority individuals during the transition to marriage equality. It introduces the Contextual Relational Uncertainty (CRU) model, which posits that sociopolitical upheaval can lead to uncertainty in relationships. The study explores the association between sociopolitical uncertainty and relational uncertainty, highlighting the heightened concerns and questions that arise during periods of change. The research also delves into the experiences of individuals following the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, providing a rich qualitative analysis of the lingering doubts and concerns. The article offers valuable insights into the complex interplay between legal, social, and relational uncertainties, making it a must-read for those interested in understanding the broader implications of sociopolitical changes on personal and interpersonal well-being.
