Abstract

This chapter delves into the synergistic relationship between Lean Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies, collectively known as Lean 4.0. Through case studies of UK industrial companies, the authors analyze the practical implementation of Lean 4.0, identifying key tools, benefits, and barriers. Notably, the research highlights how digital technologies like IoT and Big Data can enhance Lean practices, while also uncovering new challenges such as risk aversion and organizational resistance to change. The chapter offers valuable insights into the complementary nature of Lean and I4.0, demonstrating how these approaches can drive operational excellence and innovation in modern manufacturing environments.
