Abstract

This chapter delves into the analysis of automated vehicle collision data in the United States, focusing on ADS and ADAS-equipped vehicles. The study examines collision trends, factors influencing safety, and the effectiveness of time-series modeling in predicting future collision frequencies. Key findings include the stable trend of ADS collisions, the variability of ADAS collisions, and the impact of adverse weather conditions on collision severity. The analysis also highlights the differences in collision patterns between ADS and ADAS vehicles, with ADS vehicles more likely to collide with cyclists and ADAS vehicles with pedestrians. The study concludes with predictions for future collision frequencies and recommendations for improving automated vehicle safety. Additionally, the chapter discusses the limitations of the current data and suggests areas for future research.
