Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of solar energy in sustainable power generation and the importance of effective monitoring systems for optimal performance. It introduces an innovative edge computing framework that leverages the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) to enhance solar energy monitoring. The proposed architecture includes a Raspberry Pi-based edge device that collects real-time data from solar inverters, enabling predictive maintenance and anomaly detection. The chapter discusses the integration of machine learning models for energy generation prediction and the use of Ethernet and Wi-Fi for seamless data communication. It also presents experimental results and case studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of the architecture in real-world scenarios. The findings highlight the potential of this integrated approach to improve the efficiency, reliability, and performance of solar energy systems, contributing to the transition to cleaner, sustainable energy sources.
