Stellantis wants to become the first series manufacturer of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. Fuel cell vans of the types Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Opel Vivaro are to roll off the production line at the Hordain (France) plant from 2024.

The French Stellantis plant in Hordain will in future produce light commercial vehicles with electric and combustion engines as well as fuel cells. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares announced the latter during his visit to the Hordain plant. The hydrogen-powered vehicles will be assembled on the site's multi-energy line, where electric and combustion engine versions are already produced. The platform of the fuel cell models will be adapted in the body shop. The vehicles will then undergo painting and assembly on the same production line as internal combustion and electric vehicles before entering a new 8000-m² finishing facility.
A dedicated team will install the hydrogen tank, additional batteries and fuel cell on a production line at the Hordain plant. From 2024, the site in the Hauts-de-France region is expected to have a production capacity of 5000 vehicles per year. Series production of the Citroën ë-Jumpy Hydrogen, Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen and Opel Vivaro-e Hydrogen models is being supported by the French government to the tune of 10 million euros.
