Lightweight components have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions caused by transportation. Therefore, Mahle together with the Fraunhofer ICT and other partners has developed and successfully tested a camshaft module made of high-strength, fiber-reinforced plastic. By selecting a suitable material and manufacturing process, as well as a module design and the utilization of function integration in the plastic, the module's manufacturing costs can also be reduced. The relevant steps of the development process and the project results are presented in this paper. …
