Brose and Plastic Omnium Join Forces to Develop Lightweight Doors

Patrick Schäfer

Automotive supplier Brose and French plastics processor Plastic Omnium have announced their collaboration to develop new lightweight vehicle door concepts.

Automotive suppliers Brose and Plastic Omnium are collaborating to develop hybrid lightweight doors. In a newly established project office in Nuremberg, engineers and designers from both companies are working on hybrid side doors made of plastic and metal. "Incorporating our companies' technologies and know-how will allow offering new styling, new functions and new vehicle assembly strategies", explains Kurt Sauernheimer, CEO of the Brose Group, and Laurent Burelle, Chaiman and CEO of Plastic Omnium.

To achieve this, they are exploiting Brose's many years of experience in mechatronics, and door and access systems, while Plastic Omnium brings its expertise in the design and manufacture of painted exterior body parts. Brose is also working on an electric door drive that can open and close side doors automatically.
