Abstract

This chapter delves into the industrial value of lignin and the role of enzymes in its sustainable extraction. It discusses various enzymatic lignin extraction methods and their evolution, highlighting the application of enzymatic lignin in different industrial domains. Recent advancements, future research directions, and sustainability considerations are also explored. The chapter encompasses the history and evolution of lignin extraction, structural changes in extracted lignin, cellulolytic enzymes, and their mechanisms. It also covers methodologies involved in the extraction of cellulolytic enzyme lignin and their applications. The valorization of lignin is promoted in terms of industrial applications, including the production of strong acids, enhancement of mechanical performance in polymers, and improvement of therapeutic properties. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the future prospects and challenges in the field of lignin extraction using cellulolytic enzymes.
