Abstract

The chapter presents an experimental evaluation of liquid-film thickness and its dynamic behavior during convective condensation of R290 in a horizontal channel. The study uses a non-intrusive optical measurement technique to capture the liquid-film thickness at various mass velocities, vapor qualities, and heat fluxes. The results demonstrate the influence of vapor quality and mass velocity on the liquid-film thickness, showing transitions from intermittent to annular flow patterns. The findings are significant for developing accurate phenomenological prediction methods for heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops in refrigeration systems.
