Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has revolutionized mobility services, with a critical focus on personalization to meet the unique needs of vulnerable road users (VRUs). This chapter delves into the challenges faced by VRUs, including pedestrians, cyclists, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, and how personalized mobility services can address these issues. The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review and the application of the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to evaluate and rank personalized routing methodologies. The findings highlight the importance of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) and the role of AI in providing tailored recommendations and enhancing user experience. The chapter also presents a detailed taxonomy of VRUs, identifying their specific needs and the barriers they face. It evaluates various personalization features and methodologies, emphasizing the need for dynamic, user-centric, and inclusive routing solutions. The discussion and future directions section underscores the necessity for ongoing innovation in integrating diverse data sources, optimizing algorithms for scalability, and incorporating inclusive design principles. The conclusions reinforce the transformative potential of MaaS in urban transportation, emphasizing the importance of safety, accessibility, and user satisfaction for all road users.
