Abstract

Efficient blast furnace operations are crucial for modern ironmaking, but managing alkali content poses significant challenges. Alkalis, primarily potassium and sodium salts, accumulate over time, leading to operational issues such as refractory damage, reduced permeability, and decreased productivity. Traditional empirical methods often fall short in addressing these complexities, highlighting the need for advanced, data-driven approaches. This article introduces the Localized Parameter Influence Estimator (LPIE), an explainable AI tool designed to optimize alkali management in blast furnaces. LPIE leverages a neural network model trained on historical operational data to predict slag alkali content and simulate parameter variations. By analyzing the effects of these variations, LPIE provides actionable insights into optimal parameter adjustments, ensuring interpretability and trust in its recommendations. The tool's advanced visualization capabilities rank parameters based on their influence, enabling targeted decision-making. LPIE focuses on operational optimization, bridging the gap between theoretical insights and practical application. The article discusses the methodology, implementation, and potential applications of LPIE, demonstrating its capability to enhance both efficiency and reliability in ironmaking processes. Through predictive modeling, sensitivity analysis, and actionable insights, LPIE offers a powerful framework for optimizing process control in blast furnace operations.
