Abstract

This chapter delves into the long-term durability of reinforced concrete structures repaired with Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) through a 15-year exposure program. The study focuses on three types of FRP materials: hand lay-up glass-epoxy, high-strength carbon, and high-modulus carbon, each tested for bond strength to concrete under real-world climatic conditions in Sherbrooke, Canada. Key findings include the significant initial strength drop for high-modulus carbon FRP and the overall excellent bonding performance of glass and carbon FRP after 15 years. The chapter also examines the failure modes of different FRP materials, highlighting the partial failure of concrete and adhesive over time. The results indicate that the bonding of GFRP and CFRP to concrete remains excellent after up to 15 years, providing valuable insights for design engineers and researchers in the field of structural reinforcement.
