Abstract

The chapter 'Loop Algebra of Kinematic Chains' delves into a systematic theory of loops to analyze the topological structures and characteristics of kinematic chains and mechanisms. It introduces three fundamental operations of loops—subtraction, intersection, and union—based on array representations. These operations form the basis for establishing the loop algebra of kinematic chains. The chapter also discusses the concept of combination loops and the conditions necessary for these operations to result in valid loops. Additionally, it explores the properties of these operations, such as commutativity, combination law, self-vanish law, and absorption law. The chapter further introduces the concept of independent loop sets and their selection rules, which are crucial for understanding the relationships between loops in a topological graph. It concludes by highlighting the practical applications of this theory in isomorphism detection and rigid sub-chain detection of kinematic chains, emphasizing the potential for automation and intelligence in mechanical conceptual design.
