Abstract

The article explores the intricate phenomenon of entanglement in quantum systems, particularly focusing on the numerical measurement of the distance between mixed states and their nearest separable states. It introduces basic notions of entanglement and separability, and discusses the challenges and approaches to quantifying entanglement. The paper presents a low-rank approximation problem for general multipartite systems and introduces a gradient flow approach to tackle this problem. It also discusses the use of the Wirtinger calculus for deriving gradients and presents numerical experiments demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed methods. The article is a valuable resource for specialists in quantum computing and related fields, offering insights into the practical challenges and solutions in entanglement quantification.
