Abstract

The article delves into the application of Mach-Zehnder interferometry with finite-fringe settings to visualize and analyze transient shock-dominated flows in confined ducts. It addresses the challenges of measuring these complex phenomena, particularly the interaction between shock waves and boundary layers, and presents innovative optical diagnostic techniques for accurate visualization. The study includes detailed experimental methods, such as the use of a high-speed camera and advanced fringe shift analysis through two-dimensional Fourier transforms. The article also introduces various flow visualization techniques, including pseudo-infinite-fringe interferograms and domain coloring, which provide detailed insights into shock structures and density fields. Additionally, the oscillatory characteristics of shock waves are examined using both Lagrangian and Eulerian methods, and an uncertainty analysis is conducted to assess the accuracy of the measurements. The results highlight the effectiveness of Mach-Zehnder interferometry in capturing high-resolution, time-resolved density fields, offering valuable data for validating numerical simulations and advancing the understanding of shock wave dynamics in supersonic flows.
