Abstract

The chapter explores the importance of mainstreaming climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk and vulnerability reduction management (DRVRM) into local development plans in the Philippines. It highlights the use of probabilistic multi-scenario hazard maps to anticipate future disasters more accurately than deterministic approaches. The methodologies for creating these maps, including climate change projections and high-resolution modeling, are detailed. The chapter also discusses the application of these maps in communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan, demonstrating their value in enhancing human security and resilience. The use of probabilistic hazard maps is shown to be essential for effective risk assessment and planning, offering a more realistic and science-based approach to disaster management.
