Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit der Frage, ob die Außenpolitik der USA auf internationaler Ebene an Bedeutung verliert. Der vermeintliche American Decline wird dabei aus einer Struktur- und einer Akteursperspektive erläutert, die einerseits die strukturellen Veränderungen im internationalen System (outside-in) sowie andererseits die gegenwärtige Machtgrundlage der USA als Akteur (inside-out) in den Blick nehmen. Es wird argumentiert, dass die sich wandelnde Position der USA eher eine Anpassung an veränderte innen- und außenpolitische Wahrnehmungen und Realitäten darstellt als einen Niedergang.
