Chapter 1. Introduction
Abstract
Content management systems are the tools required by firms for effectively structuring a huge amount of heterogeneous information. Having such type of information management system allows that: documents or assets can be stored in an organized manner using metadata, versioning, check-in etc.; a web presence can be setup considering workflow scenarios for editing and approving pages, including different types of permission level, and queried content; or, business records can be managed and analyzed effecively. Due to the everincreasing amount of heterogeneous information firms have to deal with, such systems expired high importance during last decade. In turn, nowadays content management systems exist that have specialized on managing and publishing one particular type of information, or focus on providing an all-rounder solution for all tasks. In addition, the systems existing recently are based on different license models, and are available onpremise or in the cloud. So in the end, a huge market exists providing very different content management systems. To expire the types of systems existing, and its most important elements and techniques, this chapter is presented.

Chapter 2. SharePoint Technology
Abstract
Microsoft SharePoint Server is an enterprise content management system allowing all areas of content management: effectively storing documents and assets, publishing a web presence, as well as managing business records. Because of the capabilities have consequently evolved over the years, SharePoint has become a leading content management system with a very high rate on the market of information management systems. However, as the capabilities have been improved, the complexity of the system has also increased. Because of this, it is important to understand the underlying idea of particular technologies, and to understand the meaning of single features. To solve this, this chapter is presented. The chapter is discussing the technology of SharePoint, including basic elements, the core technology, the social networking, as well as the different levels of administrating SharePoint. In addition, the ideas of the different templates provided out of the box are discussed, including collaboration, enterprise, and publishing templates.

Chapter 3. Hands-On Tutorials
Abstract
When studying the possibilities and limits provided by an information managment system, e.g. a content management systems, it is often very helpful to practically expire the system. This helps better understanding the various technologies provided, as well as reflecting the underlying scope of particular features. In the foregone chapter, all most important techniques of the content management system SharePoint 2016 have been discussed. This included the technology of the system, as well as the included templates. To practically expire the most widely used techniques, this chapter is presented providing tutorials. The aim of the tutorials is mainly to increase the learning process, but also to prepare readers for the best practices presented in the next chapter. The tutorials presented are all based on real-world requirements. Thus, a fictitious firm is featured that is nonetheless quite similar to one in the realworld. This firm is based on a German software service provider. Of course, the firm has different departments as well as different roles. This allows simulation of the most widely applied functionalities available with SharePoint Server 2016.

Chapter 4. Best Practice Scenarios
Abstract
No matter which content management system a company is using, two types of problems often emerge: uncontrolled growth of the system and inadequate use, as well as need for further customization. The first problem increases usually with the size of the company and the more the company is using the system. However, firms can effectively avoid uncontrolled growth and inadequate usage by actively counteracting. In detail, the firm has to setup a governance model defining how the system has to be used, how users have to use it, how the users have to be trained, and which rights the different users are granted with. The second problem increases usually with the complexity of the firm, the underlying processes, and the required level of personalizing the look and feel. For transferring the internal process into the content management system, workflows can help automatizing and standardizing. Additional tools exist to integrate more complex processes, but also to change the look and feel of the system. Providing this chapter, all two problems are tackled by detailing its solutions: governance model, and additional tools to improve look and feel as well as workflows.

Chapter 5. Hands-On Solutions
Abstract
When studying the possibilities and limits provided by an information managment system, e.g. a content management systems, it is often very helpful to practically expire the system. For this reason, various tutorials have been presented in the foregone chapter. Hereby, different use cases have been considered to help better understanding the various technologies provided, as well as reflecting the underlying scope of particular features of SharePoint. This included the technology of the system, as well as the included templates. To now discuss the solutions for the tutorials, this chapter is presented. Presenting the solutions for the tutorials in detail, the reader can control her/his learning process in seven main areas: managing users’ different levels of access; improving social networking in firms; more or less complicated customizing of the look and feel of the application being shown to users; integrating different types of applications, including customizing those; utilizing different types of metadata techniques to help find and structure heterogeneous information; and, finally, managing and administering different types of tasks occurring in projects and teams.
