Writing a book review is relatively straightforward in circumstances where the reviewer is either completely enthusiastic about the book in question or believes that it is fundamentally flawed. It is very convenient to be able to make a clear and unambiguous judgement. It is much trickier where the book is something of a mixed bag. One is left with the task of attempting to get the right balance between what is good and what is not so good about it.
