In 1982, when the modest Renault 9 was voted European Car of the Year ahead of the Opel Ascona C, the Knight Industries Two Thousand model appeared in the USA. It came equipped with environment detection, voice control and autonomous driving functions. Unfortunately it was only available on the TV screen, because K.I.T.T. with David Hasselhoff at the wheel was the central character in the Knight Rider series.
