Abstract

The chapter presents a groundbreaking mathematical model, the Ocular Mathematical Virtual Simulator (OMVS), designed to study the eye and brain system in relation to glaucoma. By combining 0D and 3D models, the OMVS simulates ocular hemodynamics and biomechanics, particularly focusing on the lamina cribrosa. The model helps isolate and quantify the influence of key factors such as intraocular pressure, intracranial pressure, and arterial blood pressure on glaucoma development. Simulation results demonstrate the model's ability to predict changes in central retinal vessel blood flow under varying conditions, providing valuable insights into the disease's progression. The OMVS serves as a virtual laboratory, enabling researchers to perform virtual experiments and gain deeper understanding of glaucoma's underlying mechanisms.
