Abstract

The chapter 'Mathematical Models for the Reviewer Assignment Problem in Project Management and a Case Study' delves into the critical issue of assigning reviewers to projects efficiently. It begins by highlighting the importance of resource optimization in project management, particularly in the context of growing populations and technological advancements. The authors develop two mathematical models designed to maximize the degree of matching between reviewers and projects, while also minimizing the total evaluation time. These models were tested using data from a scientific research project unit, demonstrating their effectiveness in achieving balanced assignments. The case study showcases how these models can significantly reduce the time required for manual assignments, from hours to mere seconds. The chapter concludes by discussing potential future work, including the development of a decision support system to prevent unfair and unbalanced assignments. This comprehensive approach offers valuable insights for professionals seeking to enhance the efficiency and fairness of their project management processes.
