Abstract

This chapter delves into the mechanical and fracture characterization of shot-earth 772, an earthen material designed for eco-friendly structural applications. The study addresses the growing need for sustainable construction techniques that reduce energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions, and environmental pollution. Shot-earth 772, composed of soil, aggregates, and cement, is tested for its compressive and flexural strengths, as well as its fracture toughness, using standardized methods and the Modified Two-Parameter Model. The experimental results demonstrate that shot-earth 772 exhibits mechanical properties similar to low-strength concrete, making it a viable alternative for structural applications. The chapter also discusses the preparation of shot-earth specimens, the testing procedures, and the analysis of fracture behavior, providing a thorough examination of this innovative material's potential in sustainable construction.
