Abstract

The study investigates the mechanical and thermal properties of acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) composites reinforced with wollastonite, focusing on the influence of mixing strategies. Wollastonite, with its needle-shaped crystals and superior mechanical properties, is shown to significantly enhance the stiffness and modulus of ABS. The research compares one-step and two-step mixing methods, revealing that the two-step method leads to better distribution of wollastonite in the SAN matrix, resulting in improved mechanical properties. The study also employs dynamic thermo-mechanical analyses to understand the viscoelastic properties of the composites, highlighting the restricted chain mobility in the presence of wollastonite. The findings suggest that wollastonite is a promising alternative to glass fiber in ABS composites, with the new mixing method showing potential for enhancing overall composite performance.
