Abstract

The article delves into the enhanced formability of sheet metal in flexible-die forming processes using magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) with magnetic-field-dependence. It explores how the mechanical properties of MREs, influenced by magnetic fields, can be adjusted to improve sheet metal deformation. The study involves experimental and finite element analysis to determine the stress-strain relationships and pressure-transmitting properties of MREs. The findings reveal that MREs can enhance sheet metal formability by reducing forming pressure and increasing the stress ratio of in-plane stress components. This work offers valuable insights into the practical application of MREs in sheet metal forming processes, contributing to advancements in materials science and manufacturing technologies.
