The article delves into the complex challenge of preventing thermal runaway in lithium-ion battery systems, a critical issue given the increasing number of battery fires in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. It presents a detailed analysis of the processes involved in battery fires and introduces various simulative and experimental methods to enhance battery safety. The example of gas channels is used to demonstrate how design modifications can prevent the spread of fire. The article also discusses the use of advanced simulation models to predict temperature profiles and optimize battery system design. Experimental methods are highlighted as essential for validating safety measures, with a focus on the influence of different gas channels on thermal propagation. The combination of simulations and experiments allows for the development of fast, economical, and safe technical solutions for battery systems.
