Abstract

The article presents the synthesis and characterization of methyl acrylate functionalized hyper-crosslinked polymers (HSDM) for efficient adsorption of aromatic small molecule compounds from water. Using suspension polymerization and Friedel–Crafts alkylation, the polymers exhibit significantly enhanced specific surface area (S BET) and pore volume, leading to superior adsorption capacities for aniline, phenol, and salicylic acid. The study also explores the adsorption mechanisms, including hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, and electrostatic interactions, and demonstrates excellent reusability of the polymers after multiple adsorption-desorption cycles. The findings suggest that HSDM polymers are promising materials for water treatment applications, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution to environmental pollution.
