Abstract

The article introduces the development of microporous regenerated cellulose-based macrogels for the covalent immobilization of enzymes. It highlights the advantages of using cellulose, particularly its biocompatibility and non-toxicity, for enzyme immobilization. The study focuses on the preparation of cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) and regenerated cellulose macrogels (CCNMs) with interconnected microporous structures. The carboxyl groups within the macrogels are activated using the EDC·HCl/NHS system, providing efficient binding sites for enzyme immobilization. The immobilized enzymes show improved stability, reusability, and operational stability under various pH and temperature conditions. The article concludes by emphasizing the potential of these macrogels as stable, efficient, and recyclable enzyme immobilization carriers, with significant implications for industrial applications.
