Abstract

The article presents a novel approach to enhancing the performance of microstrip patch antenna arrays by incorporating split ring resonators (SRRs). It focuses on the design and analysis of a two-element antenna array operating at 5.8 GHz, comparing the performance of conventional arrays with those loaded with SRRs. The integration of SRRs is shown to significantly improve gain by 1.87 dBi and reduce mutual coupling, making the antenna array suitable for applications such as IEEE 802.16a 5.8 GHz Wi-MAX. The study includes detailed simulations and measurements, validating the theoretical models and demonstrating the practical benefits of using metamaterials in antenna design.
