Abstract

This study delves into the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-7.5Cu-1Si alloys with varying iron content, prepared through powder metallurgy. Key topics include the phase composition and microstructure evolution, the impact of iron on density and mechanical properties, and the strengthening mechanisms at play. The research reveals that adding iron leads to the formation of new phases like Al7Cu2Fe, Al4Cu9, Al2Fe, and Al13Fe4, which significantly influence the alloy's microstructure and properties. Notably, the tensile strength peaks at 2 wt pct iron, while hardness reaches its maximum at 6 wt pct. The study concludes that iron content crucially affects the alloy's phase composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties, offering valuable insights for optimizing these materials in practical applications.
