Abstract

This chapter explores the critical issue of driver fatigue and presents a sophisticated solution using machine learning and computer vision. The main topics covered include the implementation of a drowsiness detection system using OpenCV for image processing and SVM for classification, the role of image preprocessing and feature extraction in identifying drowsiness, and the integration of computer vision techniques to monitor facial features such as eye aspect ratio and mouth opening ratio. The chapter also discusses the algorithmic flow of the drowsiness detection process, from data collection to alarm alerts, and highlights the system's real-time monitoring capabilities. The results demonstrate the system's accuracy in classifying drowsiness levels and its potential to reduce road accidents caused by driver fatigue. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of this technology in enhancing road safety and suggests further improvements for real-world deployment.
