This chapter delves into the challenges of mitigating vibrations in long-span suspension bridges, particularly focusing on vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) and seismic loads. It explores three primary methods for rotational control of main girders: damped outriggers, midspan rotational dampers, and paired vertical dampers. The text highlights the effectiveness of damped outriggers in providing additional rotational damping and suppressing vibrations.
